EU-GIFT brings European research closer to citizens in La Rioja

| 25 September 2026 |

The University of La Rioja joined the European Researchers’ Night 2026 with an evening of science, creativity and public engagement in the heart of Logroño, helping to bring research closer to citizens and highlighting the European dimension of university cooperation through EU-GIFT

On 25 September 2026, the University of La Rioja (UR) took part in the European Researchers’ Night with a programme designed to bring science and research closer to citizens in an accessible, participatory and engaging way.

Held at La Terraza de Diario La Rioja, in Paseo del Espolón in Logroño, the event formed part of the European Researchers’ Night, one of Europe’s major celebrations of science and knowledge, taking place simultaneously in hundreds of cities across Europe.

Throughout the afternoon and evening, visitors were invited to discover research through a wide variety of activities for all ages.

The programme included hands-on scientific workshops, experiments, exhibitions, demonstrations and outreach activities, creating an informal meeting point between researchers and the public and encouraging curiosity, participation and dialogue.

A European dimension through EU-GIFT

As one of the seven partner universities of EU-GIFT, the University of La Rioja is part of a European network that connects higher education institutions through research, education, innovation, mobility and knowledge transfer.

Events such as the European Researchers’ Night provide an opportunity to make this European cooperation more visible at local level and to show how the work carried out at universities is connected to broader shared challenges and opportunities across Europe.

Through its participation in the event, the University of La Rioja contributed to strengthening the links between researchers, citizens and society, while also reinforcing the values promoted by EU-GIFT: cooperation, knowledge exchange and stronger connections between universities and their territories.

Bringing science closer to society

The European Researchers’ Night in Logroño offered citizens the opportunity to discover the research being carried out in La Rioja, meet the people behind it and experience science in a direct and accessible way.

By opening research to the public and encouraging interaction between researchers and citizens, the initiative reflects EU-GIFT’s commitment to bringing European cooperation closer to society and making its impact visible in the territories of its partner universities.
