| 25 September 2026 |
More than 1,500 visitors discovered research, innovation and European cooperation during Hochschule Geisenheim University’s first participation in the European Researchers’ Night, with EU-GIFT playing a key role in bringing an international dimension to the event
On 25 September 2026, Hochschule Geisenheim University opened its campus to the public for its first European Researchers’ Night, transforming the university into a lively meeting place for science, innovation and knowledge exchange.
More than 1,500 visitors took part in the event, exploring around 50 interactive stations located across the central campus, research facilities and greenhouses. The programme offered hands-on activities, guided tours, talks and presentations covering topics ranging from digital viticulture and horticulture to food and beverage research, sustainability and new technologies.
A particular focus of the evening was the connection between research and society, giving visitors of all ages the opportunity to meet researchers, ask questions and experience scientific work first-hand.
A European perspective through EU-GIFT
For the first time, Geisenheim’s Researchers’ Night was also placed within a broader European context. The local press highlighted the role of the EU-GIFT Alliance, which connects Hochschule Geisenheim University with six other higher education institutions across Europe.
This European dimension was especially visible at the European Corner, where visitors could learn more about Geisenheim’s international partnerships and EU-GIFT activities. According to the local press coverage, products from partner universities between Portugal and Romania were also presented there, providing a tangible example of the links being built across the Alliance.
The event demonstrated how international university cooperation can help connect research with society and contribute to common European challenges in areas such as food systems, agriculture, climate adaptation and sustainable development.
A highlight of EU-GIFT Agri Food Week
The Researchers’ Night also marked the public highlight of Agri Food Week, held at Hochschule Geisenheim University from 22 to 25 September 2026. The new thematic week was created as part of the university’s participation in the EU-GIFT Alliance and brought together prospective students, members of the university community, researchers, professionals and citizens interested in the future of food, agriculture and landscape development.
Activities throughout the week ranged from sessions on fruit juice production and beer brewing to educational formats for school students and specialist conferences, culminating in the Researchers’ Night.
By connecting local audiences with research and, at the same time, showcasing the European network behind Hochschule Geisenheim University, the event offered a strong example of EU-GIFT’s aim to bring European cooperation closer to citizens and strengthen connections between universities, territories and society.
