Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP) at Eszterházy Károly Catholic University: The Roots of the Past Are the Challenges of the Future. Climate Change and the Challenges of Grape-Wine Production

July 6th to 10th , 2026

The Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “The Roots of the Past are the Challenges of the Future: Climate Change and the Challenges of Grape-Wine Production” brings together students and academic staff from the universities participating in the alliance for an international learning experience focused on the future of viticulture and wine production in the context of climate change.

Hosted in Eger, the programme combines online lectures, academic seminars, field visits, technical winery tours, wine tastings, teamwork activities, and student presentations. Throughout the course, participants will explore how climate change is transforming grape-growing regions, wine typicity, terroir expression, vineyard management, irrigation strategies, biodiversity, pest control, grape diseases, and sustainable wine production across Europe.

The programme features contributions from experts and researchers from several European universities.

In addition to the academic sessions, participants will visit renowned wine regions such as Tokaj Wine Region and Eger Wine Region, where they will discover local grape varieties, traditional wine-making practices, and innovative strategies developed to respond to environmental challenges.

The BIP aims to promote interdisciplinary learning, international collaboration, cultural exchange, and critical reflection on the preservation of Europe’s wine heritage while fostering sustainable and resilient approaches for the future of grape and wine production.
