
Innovation in Viticulture and Oenology: Research Experiences from Eszterházy Károly Catholic University (Hungary), Partner of the EU-GIFT
International exchange on viticulture, oenology and sustainable innovation within the EU-GIFT alliance
The University of Verona will welcome a delegation of colleagues from Eszterházy Károly Catholic University (Eger, Hungary)from 18 to 22 May as part of the activities of the European alliance EU-GIFT. The visit represents an important opportunity for international exchange on topics related to viticulture, oenology, sustainability, and innovation applied to the agri-food sector.
The activities will mainly take place at Villa Lebrecht, the San Floriano campus of the Department of Biotechnology, and will include meetings with faculty members, researchers, and students from the University of Verona working in areas such as viticulture, climate change management, and the development of new international academic pathways, including the master’s programmes promoted within EU-GIFT.
Among the events scheduled, the technical seminar “Innovation in grape and wine science: ongoing research activities at Eszterházy Károly Catholic University (ECKU) of Eger (Hungary)” will take place on Tuesday, 19 May at 2:30 p.m. at Villa Eugenia in San Pietro in Cariano. The seminar will explore some of the main challenges and emerging perspectives in the contemporary wine sector, ranging from climate change to the use of artificial intelligence for more sustainable viticulture.
The programme will include presentations on emerging risks for wine production, ESG challenges in the sector, an introduction to the Eger wine region, and a technical tasting of wines from the Hungarian territory. The initiative forms part of the internationalization and scientific collaboration activities promoted by the EU-GIFT alliance, fostering the exchange of expertise, best practices, and shared projects among European universities.
